Fall is finally here, and with that comes the start of all things pumpkin spice and everything nice. Autumn has proven to be the most superior season time and time again. So, if you’re reading this, you may completely agree with this concept or you’re merely giving my argument the benefit of the doubt. Regardless, let this article titillate your interpretations with a list of seven reasons why fall is the best season.
- Specialized and Limited Edition Drinks
Every year, almost everyone looks forward to the fall season just to see what new drinks and food items are going to be released by competing coffee shops: Starbucks Coffee and Dunkin’ Doughnuts. Now, you could start a polemic on how Starbucks’ fall items are extraordinarily better than Dunkin’s, but I digress. Let’s be honest: what’s better than a pumpkin spice latte, pumpkin spice frappuccino or a pumpkin spice sweet cream cold foam cold brew? I mean, you could argue with me and say a pumpkin pie or hot apple cider, but even then, those are still amazing fall treats. Dunkin’ even has fall flavored and decorated doughnuts that have been said to outdo their most famous original glaze. With the crisp air and the beautiful color changing of the season, who wouldn’t want an amazing fall flavor to go with it?
- There are Beautiful Colors Everywhere!
Alongside the change in weather comes the beautiful (and highly aesthetic) fall foliage. You could argue that summer is also filled with beautiful colors from the flowers, but the red, yellow, orange and brown leaves that fill the sidewalks on a cool autumn day are so much more serene than the pollinated flowers and scorching heat.
- Pumpkin and Apple Picking
Two of the best activities to do during the fall season are pumpkin and apple picking. What’s more fun than heading to a farm or patch in upstate New York with a group of friends to take a little break from the city? Plus, after the picking, you can have a cute pumpkin carving competition, enjoy some fresh apples or maybe even make an apple pie if you like to bake. When you think of fall, this is the ultimate activity, besides the festivities of Halloween, of course.
- It’s the Only Season With Multiple Names That Are Consistently Used
This season is known for having multiple names including fall, autumn and harvest, but in recent years, society has also coined the term “spooky season.” Each of the names are related to the same season but also have different historical and sociological backgrounds. The labels “fall” and “spooky season” are both sociological terms that were developed and maintained by American society. Although fall was a name taken on by Americans after the 1800s, spooky season is a more pop-culture term coined by members of the Gen Z community. Autumn and harvest, however, are more historical terms that relate to pre-colonial times. Autumn is predominantly used by the British, as it started as a British term and gradually became popular in America. Even before autumn, the name “harvest” was used to address the seasonal change and getting ready for crop harvesting. Not only are there unique names that coincide with the season, but there’s also great historical and sociological development associated with them.
- The Start of Both Libra and Scorpio Season
Let’s be honest: these are a-list signs in astrology, and they just so happen to both be entwined with the fall festivities. The first days of fall this year were September 22nd and 23rd. Libra season goes from September 23rd to October 22nd as Scorpio season is full-fledged fall, starting from October 23rd to November 21st. Libras are known for their charm, beauty, social intelligence and well-balanced personalities. Scorpios, on the other hand, are known for having loyal, smart, ambitious, enticing and passionate energies. Although the signs are vastly different, they are two of the most well-loved signs because of the intensity of their emotions. During the fall season, find a friend who’s a Libra or Scorpio and wish them a happy birthday.
- Football Season
Whether you’re more interested in college football or the National Football League (NFL), fall is all about grabbing your popcorn, drinks and a large group of people to tailgate with, sit in front of a TV or hunker down in front of a football stadium. Even if you’re not into football, this time of the year is a great excuse to wear cute team jerseys and all the oversized street-style clothes that you own but never have an excuse to wear. For any fellow football fanatics, it’s a great time to get into fantasy football and place bets on your favorite teams.
- The Official Start of Spooky Season
Finally, the greatest (and most important) reason why fall is the best season is the official start of the spooky season. Who doesn’t love the idea of binge-watching your favorite Halloween movies and making “boo baskets” with your best friends? The spooky season activities are endless. As college students, we have the luxury of visiting haunted houses, doing Halloween-themed bar hops, attending hundreds of freight festivals and watching a multitude of scary movies, leading to endless nightmares. Regardless, it’s the only season where you can dress up and become another character without fear of judgment, but rather just to have fun.
Overall, fall continuously proves itself to be the best season through its holidays, seasonal activities and overall geographically beautiful aura. And, even if you weren’t a full-fledged fall lover before, I hope this gave you a few reasons to start loving the season a little bit more.
