Super Bowl LIX is finally upon us. The Philadelphia Eagles will face off against the Kansas City Chiefs in a highly anticipated rematch of Super Bowl LVII. The Chiefs aim to become the first team in the National Football League (NFL)’s history to win three consecutive Super Bowl championships, while the Eagles seek to avenge their loss two years ago and claim their second Super Bowl title.
This article will break down each team, position by position, and determine who holds the advantage heading into Super Bowl Sunday.
Quarterback
Eagles:
Analysis:
Jalen Hurts has a chip on his shoulder coming into this game after losing Super Bowl LVII to the Chiefs. He is a dual threat who can run and pass the ball well. Although Hurts has struggled with passing throughout the season, he performed very well in the Conference Championship, completing 20-for-28 pass attempts and recording 246 passing yards.
Chiefs:
Analysis:
While Patrick Mahomes has not had his best season, you cannot count him out when the lights shine brightest. During the playoffs, he averaged 277.9 yards and 2.1 touchdowns per game, showing his ability to perform at the highest level on the biggest stages.
Advantage:
Chiefs
Running Back
Eagles:
Analysis:
Saquon Barkley has had one of the best seasons by a running back in NFL history, rushing for over 2,000 yards, averaging 125.3 yards per game and seven touchdowns of over 60 yards across the regular season and postseason. However, he’ll face a tough test, as the Chiefs have not allowed a 100-yard rusher in 18 consecutive playoff games.
Chiefs:
Analysis:
Kareem Hunt has played well since joining the Chiefs near the beginning of the season. He has rushed 836 yards and 9 touchdowns between the regular and postseason. However, due to the Chiefs’ pass-heavy offense and the Eagles’ great defense, he likely will not receive many opportunities during the Super Bowl.
Advantage:
Eagles

Wide Receivers
AJ Brown, DeVonta Smith, Jahan Dotson (Eagles):
Analysis:
The Eagles’ wide receiver room is one of the best in the league, and each is a reliable target for Jalen Hurts when given the opportunity. The duo of Brown and DeVonta Smith have combined for 241 receiving yards this postseason. While they’ve battled through minor injuries, both are expected to be at full strength heading into the Super Bowl.
Xavier Worthy, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Hollywood Brown (Chiefs):
Analysis:
This trio of wide receivers have stepped up for the Chiefs in the absence of Rashee Rice. The Chiefs rely heavily on their passing game but tend to lean on their tight end. These receivers have a combined 225 receiving yards this postseason with only one touchdown.
Advantage:
Eagles
Tight End
Eagles:
Analysis:
Dallas Goedert leads the Eagles in receiving yards this postseason at 188. He has been highly reliable in each game, making tough catches in crucial moments. While he will still be an important player in the Super Bowl, he may see fewer targets due to Brown and DeVonta Smith being fully healthy.
Chiefs:
Analysis:
Like Mahomes, Travis Kelce hasn’t had the best season of his career, but he can’t be counted out in big games. He leads the Chiefs with 136 receiving yards in the playoffs and has excelled in his last three Super Bowls, averaging 102.3 yards per game. Kelce should be in for a big game going into his fifth Super Bowl.
Advantage:
Chiefs
Offensive Line
Eagles:
Analysis:
The Eagles boasted the top-ranked offensive line during the 2024-2025 season and are the largest unit in the league. Their dominance has allowed Jalen Hurts an average of 2.7 seconds in the pocket, the highest in the NFL. This protection has not only helped Hurts in the passing game but has also paved the way for the league’s top rushing attack, thanks to their excellent run blocking.
Chiefs:
The Chiefs were also solid throughout the season, ranking seventh overall. Led by Creed Humphrey and Trey Smith, the line allowed Mahomes 2.5 seconds in the pocket, the third-best in the league. They protect Mahomes very well, only allowing 36 sacks on him this season. Their ability to keep Mahomes upright will be critical in facing a tough Eagles pass rush in the Super Bowl.
Advantage:
Eagles

Defense
Eagles:
Analysis:
The Eagles boast the NFL’s top-ranked defense this year, allowing just 17.8 points per game in the regular season and 18.3 in the playoffs. Their defensive unit has been absolutely dominant due to key players like Jalen Carter, Zach Baun and Quinyon Mitchell. So far, they’ve recorded four interceptions, six fumble recoveries and 10 sacks in the postseason. This defense will be a formidable challenge for the Chiefs to overcome.
Chiefs:
Analysis:
The Chiefs ranked ninth in total defense this season. Their defense has kept them in games all season long, allowing 19.2 points per game in the regular season and 21.5 in the playoffs. The Chiefs’ defensive strong suit is their rushing defense, which ranked eighth this year. As previously stated, the Chiefs have not allowed a 100-yard rusher in 18 consecutive playoff games, a streak that will be crucial in trying to contain Barkley. The Chiefs will look to force the Eagles to rely on their passing game, an area where they are less dominant.
Advantage:
Eagles
Kicking/Special Teams
Eagles:
Analysis:
Eagles kicker Jake Elliott is coming off the worst season of his career, posting just a 77.8 percent success rate. However, he has picked up his production during the playoffs, posting an 85.7 percent success rate. It is critical for Elliott not to leave any points off the board when he is given the opportunity. The Eagles’ return game has also been solid throughout the postseason, frequently giving them favorable field position.
Chiefs:
Analysis:
Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker also did not have a great season, posting an 84 percent success rate. Nevertheless, Butker has been perfect during the playoffs, going four-for-four on field goals and five-for-five. The Chiefs return team has also performed very well during the postseason, always giving them excellent field position with a long of 63 yards.
Advantage:
Chiefs
