Pace University students are changing campus film culture with new club Setterboxd. Founded by students Emma Oros, Kylie Rose, Sofia Oros and Tatyana Ramone, they intend on watching, reviewing and discussing movies as a group, adjacent to a book club.
They intend to function similarly to the app Letterboxd, which is dedicated to logging and reviewing movies. Unlike traditional film clubs focused on production, this group’s focal point is on watching new movies collaboratively and engaging in critical discussion. It wants to welcome students of all academic backgrounds. The club was founded during the spring semester of 2025, but has since begun operating as an on-campus club during the following fall semester.
The club will meet weekly, from 12:10-1:10 p.m on Wednesdays. Members will watch a movie elected by the club independently, then convene to share their thoughts. Setterboxd aims to be as inclusive as possible, allowing people with any background in cinema to come and share their feelings.
“Honestly, I think it helps bring out the creative and fun aspect of creating a community,” said Rose, the club’s president. “”I think it’s kind of hard to find a community within Pace if you’re not part of a club. So being able to have this specific organization that’s not major-based or anything— like, it literally is a collective of every single aspect of Pace, from all sorts of majors and interests. I think it really will bring people together.”
The club also aims to differ from the Film Club that is already popular on campus. The Film Club’s larger focus is on filmmaking and giving Pace University students the opportunity to create films regardless of their majors or background in creating. Setterboxd aims to be a more relaxed club, and wants to keep their intentions on watching and consuming films rather than creating them.
Students who are interested can join the club on Wednesdays from 12:10 p.m. to 1:10 p.m. in One Pace Plaza room W515. For more information about Setterboxd, contact Oros, the club’s secretary, at [email protected], or follow @Setterboxd on social media.
