A 26-year-old man was arrested for the leakage of the upcoming animated film “Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender.” Some scenes were leaked on X, with the user claiming to have received the entire movie in an email. The clips received copyright penalties and were removed from the X platform, but another account ended up posting the entire film. The police received reports about clips from an unpublished movie, and within a day, they were able to identify and arrest the man in Singapore. His electronic devices were searched, where a copy of the unreleased film was found, as well as the media server he had unauthorized access to.
“Legend of Aang” was originally supposed to be released in theatres in October 2026. However, in December 2025, it was decided that it would be put on Paramount+ instead, with the upcoming series “Avatar: Seven Havens.” The idea was that the two would join the Avatar franchise on Paramount, which also included Avatar: “The Last Airbender” and “The Legend of Korra.” Paramount’s decision was a strategy to appeal to the fans in order to boost the number of subscriptions, or to keep members from cancelling, so that their profit would grow.
Less than a month after the announcement, Paramount increased its prices on Jan. 15, 2026, with their essential and premium plans each increasing a dollar more per month, and their yearly plans rising by $30 for the essential plan and $20 for the premium plan. Even if Paramount+ was concerned about its profits, there are still many people who do not go to the theaters. Some people wait until a movie comes out on a streaming platform because tickets to a movie theater can be as expensive as a monthly membership. The film could have easily been premiered in theaters for a few weeks, then released onto streaming services, as most movies do.
The disclosure of this film does not seem to be simply because a person wants to give people access to watching this movie. If that was the case, the leak could have happened after the movie was released on Paramount+. Since this feature was publicly exposed months before its release date, there must have been a goal in mind. It could have been a form of retaliation against Paramount, to challenge the authority they used in deciding that “Legend of Aang” would not be in theaters.
While Singapore does have access to some streaming services, Paramount+ is not one of them. Even though this man could have obtained material from any film on his server, he still could have been a long-time fan who genuinely wanted to see the film. His spoiler of the film could have been from anger towards Paramount for not being easily accessible to him. Nonetheless, it is no excuse because he could have watched it on his own and moved on.
There have been comments online stating that Paramount+ should be held accountable. Some say the leak of the movie is “karma” for the producers, since the original white actors were fired over their race and a new cast was hired to be an accurate representation of Asian culture. People were displeased to hear that the original cast would not be brought back to the upcoming film because of the viewpoint that those actors are what made the original great.
This is an assumption that it already predicts that the new film could not be as great with a different group of cast members. Despite all of this, there needs to be recognition for the commitment, effort and creativity put into this movie. The early release of this film undermines the hard work people put into producing it, especially considering the fact that “Legend of Aang” is the first animated film of the Avatar series.
