As the spring semester comes to a close and The Pace Press goes offline over the summer, we’ve decided to take a peek into our little crystal ball at what we believe to be the most can’t-miss films of the summer of 2026.
“Disclosure Day” – June 12
Even with a career spanning five decades, legendary director Steven Spielberg is still continuing to cook up blockbusters like he still has something to prove. We don’t know much about the story of “Disclosure Day” (although we do know it involves aliens), but with leads like “Challengers” star Josh O’Connor and the always-incredible Emily Blunt, Spielberg will hopefully show us that we weren’t wrong for wanting to believe.
“Toy Story 5” – June 19
In a Hollywood inundated with sequel fever, it’s no surprise that Disney would want to continue mining the “Toy Story” franchise for more adventures. With old faces like Tom Hanks and Tim Allen returning and new faces like Greta Lee as an iPad antagonist, the film promises a “toys vs. tech” narrative reflecting a more modern world for the kids of today. With the release of this five-quel, it’ll be interesting to see if the “Toy Story” world is still worth playing with.
“The Odyssey” – July 17
After the massive success of “Oppenheimer” just a few years ago, Christopher Nolan proved himself as an auteur worth his weight both in acclaim and box-office dollars. But “The Odyssey” promises a story of an even more mighty scale as an adaptation of Homer’s legendary epic. With an all-star cast led by Matt Damon as Odysseus, Nolan might just sail his ship into awesome new horizons.
“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” – July 31
Preceding the colossal playing power of the December-bound “Avengers: Doomsday,” “Brand New Day” promises a smaller-scale Spider-flick that fans have been clamoring for. Tom Holland is once again returning as a depressed and lonely Spider-Man making his way through life following the game-changing ending of “No Way Home.” With Marvel mainstays like Zendaya and Mark Ruffalo returning alongside new faces like Sadie Sink, “Brand New Day” seems to herald a bold new era for Spider-Man.
