Have you seen cardboard boxes decorating nearly every campus building? If not, you should do your best to keep an eye out—especially if you spot the words “Book Drive” written across them. Everyone should have a right to literature, and by donating a book or two, you’ll be able to directly ensure that people in homeless shelters all over the city have access to books spanning all genres. From fantasy to biographies, any spare novels are appreciated! Just find any of the boxes labeled “Book Drive,” and place your donations inside. Not only would you be helping out your fellow students fulfill their civic engagement requirement, but you’ll also be directly benefiting the unhoused community in New York City. From adults to children, books are often considered a luxury—but by donating the books you’re finished with and no longer have any use for, you’ll help ensure that people in shelters are able to educate and entertain themselves, at absolutely no cost. These boxes are already up, and will stay that way until early May — so be sure to donate and make a real difference, while you still have the chance!
